I'm probably gonna get a bit of crap for this but a few friends of mine actually suggested I do this. I actually meant to do this a few days ago but I got a really bad case of food poisoning and I've only just got better. Anyway here it goes.
This show is slipping back into old habits. I say we raise our voices.
I’ve been really out of the loop when it comes to Arrow lately. I haven’t watched 6x02 or 6x03 but I’ve read reviews, people’s general opinions and looked at ratings and so far this season doesn’t seem to have impressed the general audiences given the number of negative comments I’ve seen on YouTube, Arrow reddit and general online blogs. Because of that I’m suggesting a boycott of this show. We should all just stop watching the show for a while, at the very least we wait a day or two and download the episode so it appears everybody has completely skipped out on that week and we all just keep expressing our dislike for Olicity as we always have and maybe just maybe we can get through to CW and make them realize they’re pushing this once great show in the wrong direction and it has to stop.
Remember when there were characters you could actually like?
This show used to be something special. It used to be about a reckless playboy billionaire who hurt just about everybody he cared for who got lost at sea and spent 5 years in hell forging himself into a weapon he used to shape his home into a better place as he himself became a better person to those he loved. There were many likable characters who made the show awesome. Diggle and Felicity were the backbone of the team and both had actual roles to play, Thea was a conflicted soul torn between her heroic brother and villainous father, Laurel was the woman Oliver loved who worked past her emotional insecurities to become a hero, Malcolm was the monster who put the Queens through so much crap, Roy was the wayward Oliver took under his wing and Moira was the scheming mother Oliver loved despite her flaws. It was about love and loss, family and friends, betrayal and redemption and it worked damn near perfectly. It became so popular it led to the creation of several spin-offs.
Look how far this show has fallen.
Now it’s just Oliver and Felicity’s overly dramatized love story supported by Diggle and a team of randoms while most of the characters we grew to love are either dead or missing (and might as well be dead) while most of the themes that made this series great are forgotten now while it also continues to dismiss actual faithful source material. Felicity is just a broken character who made this show a living hell and it’s impossible to look past it now, Dinah is just a bandage on an open wound that never should’ve happened, Curtis is a piss poor attempt at LGBT representation, in fact the only new character I actually like is Rene. They’ve allowed Olicity to control their actions and it’s ruined so many storylines and if this show wasn’t epic from the start or had so much potential I don’t think anyone would have even stuck around this long.
Yes I still think this is the primary cause of Arrow's downfall as it's lead to so many other things happening. Ironically if Slade actually killed Felicity in 2x23 none of it would've happened.
There’s so much they could do if they would just remove their heads from their asses. They could redeem E2-Laurel and pair her with Oliver instead to give us as close to the actual Arrow x Canary pairing they should’ve gone with from the start, they could have Thea be Speedy again to honor Malcolm’s death and have her start Queen Inc from Merlyn Global (giving Walter a reason to come back), they could kill Felicity and have Curtis take her role, send Dinah to Legends so we don’t have two Canaries and without wasting a good character who just doesn’t belong in Arrow, they could actually start drawing from traditional source material for a change. Above all of course just f***ing Olicity already! As an aspiring writer myself it sucks being able to see how much potential this show still has even after how badly it’s fucked up and seeing them screw things up over and over again.
Remember simpler better times like this? Why can't it just go back to this?
So I am imploring people who love the Arrowverse shows if you want Arrow to get better and become the show it used to be and remember it for something more than just being the show that allowed a bunch of more superior spin-offs to happen, it’s time to raise our voices. Stop watching the show for the time being, again if you absolutely have to just download and watch it the next day so it appears that you didn’t watch it that week. If they really do care about their audiences and want their show to keep going they’re gonna have to listen to their audiences otherwise the show will get cancelled, but honestly if they don’t change I think that might be a more preferable option to be honest.
