Trivia

  • This episode marks the return of Ralph ever since his body was taken over by DeVoe's mind in "Lose Yourself"
    • While Ralph was revealed to have been kept alive in DeVoe's mind, none of the other bus meta-humans appeared. Todd Helbing confirmed they are all dead.[2]
  • Ralph makes a reference to Attack of the Clones from the Star Wars franchise during his and Barry's confrontation with the army of DeVoes inside the latter's mind.
  • The title refers to the quote Iris said to Barry in "Mixed Signals".
  • When Marlize suggests to send Barry's mind into DeVoe's, Cisco refers to the film Inception that is based on the similar concept.
  • This is the first non-Supergirl episode in the Arrowverse that Kara Danvers is mentioned outside of crossovers, as Barry mentions Kara as a possible ally they could contact.
  • Marlize revealed that the reason behind the creation of the bus metas was so that DeVoe could absorb their powers, which would allow him to defeat Team Flash and any of their allies they could potentially call to their aid (though it is unknown if this is true or not), thus ensuring the success of the Enlightenment.
  • This is the first time since "Don't Run" that DeVoe appears as The Thinker's original form.
    • He breaks the fourth wall by claiming there will be no defeating the big bad this year to Barry, indirectly referring to his self-proclaimed superiority compared to the Reverse-Flash, Zoom and Savitar in "Therefore I Am".
  • A character named Thomas is mentioned by Cecille when she is in empathy state near Caitlin. In that state, Cecille speaks exactly as Killer Frost.
  • Cisco notes Harry's condition is similar to Barry when he got out of the Speed Force by comparing their garble.
    • Interestingly, his condition is stated to be "enlightened" by DeVoe in hologram form. Therefore, this makes Barry the first one to be in an "enlightened" state although his condition is due to his time in the Speed Force.
  • When Barry builds up speed to use a supersonic punch as an attempt to destroy the S.T.A.R. Labs satellite hurtling toward Central City, Marlize stated the action could kill Barry.
    • This action and surroundings are reversed at the last minute before Barry reaches the satellite. This is heavily implies that the timeline has been altered at the moment before he is joined by another speedster who helped him destroy the satellite.
      • Actually, Nora states that she can also run so fast that she can reverse time a bit.
    • This is similar to the first time Barry used a supersonic punch, with Caitlin stating that if it's done wrong, Barry could shatter every bone in his body.[3] Barry's suit was full of holes that showed his bare skin and some bruises, which implies that even with help, Barry may have just barely survived.
  • This episode marks Neil Sandilands' last appearance as a series regular as he will not return for season 5.
  • This is the last episode to credit Hartley Sawyer, Danielle Nicolet and Jessica Parker Kennedy as guest stars. From the next episode onwards, they are promoted to series regulars.
  • This is the first appearance of Wally West outside of DC's Legends of Tomorrow since "Crisis on Earth-X, Part 1".
  • Mystery Girl reveals herself as Nora, Barry's daughter from the future.
    • She is revealed to be the one who coined the phrase "This House is Bitchin'" from "The Flash Reborn" when walking into the West house.
  • A cliffhanger which would have teased the villain for the next season was originally filmed for this episode. However, it was cut due to time constraints and the scene was used in the trailer for Season 5.[2][4]
