"Who Let the Chimps Out?" is the second chapter of the comic book series The Flash: Season Zero, and the second chapter in the Freak Show arc. It was released digitally on September 22, 2014. It was released in a printed collection on October 1, 2014.[1]
Synopsis[]
Having barely survived his first encounter with the Strongman, Barry heads to S.T.A.R. Labs for medical treatment and the CCPD investigates the scene of the crime. Is there more to last issue's bank robbery than meets the eye?[2]
Plot[]
Following his encounter with the strongman, Barry returned to S.T.A.R. Labs. He expressed that he believed that his ankle healed the wrong way, due to his rapid healing. Caitlin suggested they run tests to make sure there were no further complications. Cisco promised to re-break it on three, only to break it straight away, much to Barry's annoyance. Dr. Wells asked about the strongman. Barry described the man's symbol on his clothing, suggesting that he could've given the police that information. However, Wells insisted that his anonymity was for his own safety. Barry begun to question whether the team viewed him as more Barry or more The Flash. Cisco alerted Barry to a text asking for Barry on the crime scene and Dr. Wells asked for a DNA sample, before Barry got changed and made his way to the crime scene.
Somewhere, an unseen man visited a woman with large pet snakes. He told her that it was time, and she reassured the pets that he was bringing good news, that they would have a "family reunion".
At the crime scene, Barry encountered Iris. She mentioned that she'd had time off work, so her and Eddie were going to grab fro-yo. The two walked off while Barry stayed to grab some DNA samples. A cop asked Eddie if something was happening between Iris and Barry, only to be knocked back by Eddie, claiming that they were just like siblings, nor was he her type. Barry swabbed some sweat from the strongman off of the ground, giving it to Caitlin and Cisco. Detective West called Barry over to get some fingerprints.
At the Central City Zoo, the snake lady took control of some chimpanzees, causing one to have glowing eyes.
Barry was taking some fingerprints of a man. He expressed that he thought it was weird that the only thing taken was the key to his safety deposit box, not any money. He explained that the only thing in there was relatively unimportant paperwork and deeds of businesses that he'd been forced to foreclosure on. Barry watched on Eddie and Iris, accidentally hurting the man he was fingerprinting in distraction. They thanked the man for his time before leaving.
At the zoo, everyone was running away, due to all of the animals following the woman, controlled.
On the way back to the station, Barry and Joe were talking. Barry expressed his disappointment at having to hide his super speed, to which Joe reassured him that it was necessary. Suddenly, Iris and Eddie's car crashed in to multiple other vehicles. Barry and Joe got out as the other two did. Both of them were fine, however everyone was promptly shocked by a giant tiger leaping at Iris, backed up by leopards behind it.
