World War II was a war that occurred on Earth in 1940s. Among the opposing sides were the United States and the Nazis.
History[]
During World War II, the United States Army was against the forces of the Nazis. However, the Army had internal strife as African-Americans were treated differently than other soldiers. One African-American soldier, Tyson Sykes, found himself constantly fighting against other soldiers who would emotionally and physically tease him.
Sykes was used experimentally to develop a super-soldier serum which reacted with his genes making him the first active-powered meta-human.[1] At that time, Sykes stayed loyal to the United States and continued to fight the Nazis; his prowess in battle and his digging of the graves of his kills caused him to receive the moniker "Gravedigger".[2]
When he first began to time travel, Jay Garrick claimed to have travelled back to World War II and fought against the Nazis.[3]
General Kilgore fought in the war in 1942.[4]
In 1943, McDougle Jemison Factory, in Seattle; Washington, manufactured airplanes for the US Army to help with the war effort.[5]

Behind the scenes[]
- Historically, World War II was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945, although related conflicts began earlier. It involved the vast majority of the world's nations—including all of the great powers, eventually forming two opposing military alliances: the Allies and the Axis. It was the most widespread war in history, and directly involved more than 100 million people from over 30 countries.
- In DC Comics, the depiction of World War II changed depending on age and continuity. In the original 1940s stories, heroes such as Superman and Batman used to fight in the war or somehow support the war effort, respectively. These events were later retconned, with other superheroes and supervillains being depicted as veterans of World War II, while previous stories ended up as part of alternate continuities, such as the Arrowverse's Earth-2 War of the Americas.
