"You know I've been hurt in the past year twice already."
"I know. And that was scary, but you taught me to be brave and face up to the things that scare me.
—Zoe to her father, Rene Ramirez[src]

Zoe Ramirez is the daughter of Rene Ramirez and the late Laura Ramirez.

In an erased future in 2040, she became a member of the vigilante group known as the Canaries.

Original multiverse

Early life

Zoe was born to Rene and Laura Ramirez. She lived with her family in Star City. Growing up, Zoe developed an interest in hockey like her father and the two would often attend games together.

In March 2016, Zoe was preparing to go with her family to a hockey game when she heard her parents arguing. Realizing this, Zoe interrupted them, saying they were going to be late. Rene denied that he and her mother were fighting and told her that Laura wouldn't be coming to the game. Laura then advised Zoe to grab her coat, as it was going to be cold that night. Although suspicious, Zoe accepted this and left with her father.

After the game, Zoe and her father returned home in high spirits, only to find the house a mess. Rene sent a startled Zoe to her room, telling her to get ready for bed. Minutes later, Zoe came downstairs and saw an intruder (Laura's drug dealer) holding her mother at gunpoint, much to her shock. Suddenly, the dealer knocked her mother aside and began shooting at her father, causing Zoe to scream in terror. After Rene shot and killed the man, Zoe found Laura dead on the ground from the dealer's stray bullet. When Rene rushed to her side, Zoe tearfully showed him her mother's body. Her father hugged her as she cried.[1]

After her mother's death, Zoe continued living with her father for a while, though he was constantly drinking. One night, Rene was reheating some soup for dinner but passed out, intoxicated. Unable to rouse her father, Zoe tried to take the pot off of the stove by herself, only to severely burn her hand. She started crying out from the pain, which finally woke Rene up. Following this incident, Zoe was taken away from her father by child services and placed in the care of Ms. Nave.[2]

Reuniting with her father

Zoe continued to attend school in Star City, eventually becoming the goalie on her hockey team. In April 2017, Quentin Lance arranged for Ms. Nave to bring Zoe to City Hall, where they met Rene. Zoe was delighted to see her father and the two of them caught up. After talking to both his daughter and Quentin, Rene decided to start the legal process of regaining custody of Zoe, much to her joy.[2]

Several weeks later at the custody hearing however, Rene didn't show up (having been captured by Adrian Chase[3]), leaving Zoe disappointed.[4]

Five months later in October, Oliver Queen arranged for Rene to get a second chance at regaining custody of Zoe.[5]

In November, F.B.I. agent Samanda Watson received evidence from Cayden James that Zoe's father was Wild Dog.[6] Using this, she threatened to have Zoe taken away from him permanently unless Rene agreed to testify that Oliver was Green Arrow. In December, Zoe was officially reunited with her father. They returned home together, where Rene presented Zoe with a vase of sunflowers as a gift.[7]

Several weeks later in January 2018, Rene prepared lunch for Zoe and excitedly detailed their trip to the zoo after school. However, Zoe was concerned that her father wasn't going to work and asked if she would have to leave again. Rene claimed he was simply "going through a transitional period" and assured Zoe that nobody would take her away. Curtis Holt then arrived and Zoe happily greeted him. Rene told her to get ready for school while he and Curtis talked.[8]

In March, Zoe was informed by Curtis that her father was in the hospital, much to her worry.[9] She was subsequently taken care of by Curtis until Rene recovered.[10]

Later, Rene recovers then began taking care of Zoe again before reconciling with Oliver.

Anti-Monitor Crisis

During the Anti-Monitor Crisis, Zoe as well as everyone in the multiverse except for the seven Paragons, was killed in an antimatter wave by the Anti-Monitor on December 10, 2019,[11] only to be restored a month later, after the Paragons and the Spectre created a new universe.[12]
